After last week's post about how to find a job when you have no work experience, I was please to find a post about the benefits of volunteering. In last week's post, one of the suggestions if you didn't have work experience was to find a volunteer position or internship to get you something to go off of. Alexandra at Water Cooler Wisdom writes 6 more benefits to volunteering.
Here's a summary of the 6 Benefits:
- Volunteering gives a sense of purpose.
- Opportunity to pursue your passion.
- Ability to develop leadership skills.
- Become more well-rounded candidate for your job search.
Volunteering has health benefits. - Great networking opportunity and way to meet people.
Not only is volunteering great for us, but it's also good to remember that it really does help others. Last winter I was new to my city and decided to join and help out with a local Habitat for Humanity project. I mostly volunteered just to meet people in the area because I was tired of not knowing anyone. I knew nothing about building a house. But after volunteering, I know about trusses and how to install siding. Not only that but it felt good just see the faces of the new home owners. Without volunteers, great organizations, like Habitat for Humanity, wouldn't be able to do all the great work that they do. So whether you want to gain experience in a new career field or just try something new and different, volunteering has great benefits for everyone.
